IN-HOUSE RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS

U7
A clinic style, developmental program for players in Pre-K and Kindergarten, the U7 program consists of six Sunday morning clinics (2021 spring dates TBD) -- likely from 9-10 AM. The focus is on fun while learning basic fundamental lacrosse skills. We provide sticks; players must supply their own eye protection goggles and mouthguards. This age group wears t-shirts supplied by the program.

Clinics will start in late April and be weather and field-dependent. We need at least 20 registered players and parent volunteers to run the U7 program. More information to follow.

U9
The U9 program is an intramural, developmental one for players in 1st and 2nd grades. Games are played 7v7 on a shortened field. Standard field positions are two defense, two attack, and two midfielders plus one center taking the draw; we do not play with goalies. The emphasis is on learning lacrosse fundamentals, basic game rules and having fun.  All U9 teams will have one practice on Wednesdays from 4:15-5:30 PM and meet on Sunday mornings -- likely 10-11AM -- for a short practice followed by a game. Games are officiated by paid MHS Girls Varsity/JV Lacrosse players. This age group wears t-shirts supplied by the program. Each player must provide her own stick, eye goggles and mouthguard.

The first practice/game will be held in late April and be weather and field-dependent. More information to follow.

TRAVEL PROGRAMS

U11
Marblehead U11 teams of 3rd and 4th graders compete in Founders Girls Lacrosse League (FGLL) against area towns in a 7v7 game format. Each team plays eight Sunday games, typically four home and four away. The 7v7 format on a shorter field encourages player understanding of space and positioning. U11 plays with goalies. Field players get more 'touches' or opportunities to scoop, catch, pass and shoot the ball. Players work on skills and fundamentals in practice and play Sunday games with officials and modified rules to provide an age-appropriate transition to the 12v12 game format. The standard field positions include two defense players, two attack players, three midfielders and a goalie. Players observe a midline restraining line. The uniform includes a reversible numbered top supplied by the program as part of the registration fee. Other uniform pieces (black skort) must be supplied by the player, in addition to a stick, eye goggles and mouthguard.

This program starts up the first week of March. 2021 game dates: 4/11, 4/18, 4/25, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23, 6/6 with a 6/13 FGLL Jamboree.

SELECT PROGRAM

We roster two Select teams each yearn -- one for U13 (Grades 5/6) and one for U15 (Grades 7/8).  The goal of our Select teams is to give players with a higher skill level and commitment a chance to further improve their game. The Select program builds on what players learn in town practice and instruction goes deeper into various areas of the game. Practice attendance, effort, attitude, and leadership factor into decisions about positioning and playing time.

This program starts up the first week of March. The Select teams play 6 games, on Friday nights. The 2021 game dates are: TBD.
