U15
For 7th and 8th grade girls, this is the final age group in our town program before high school. This age group practices twice a week, and plays 8 (4 home, 4 away) Sunday games. Standard field positions include four attack, four defense, three midfield players and a goalie. Modified checking is allowed at this level - a players stick may be checked if it is below her shoulder. The restraining line is at the 30/35 yard line. The uniform includes a numbered jersey supplied by the program as part of the registration fee; returning players will use their uniform top from the previous year or can swap out for a larger size. Other uniform pieces (black skort) will be supplied by the player, in addition to stick, goggles and mouthguard.
U13
For 5th and 6th grade girls, U13 teams compete in 8 (4 home, 4 away) Sunday games against area towns in a 12v12 format. There are 2 team practices a week. The age group plays full-field 12v12 games; standard field positions include four attack, four defensive, three midfield players and a goalie. The restraining line is at the 30/35 yard line. Modified checking is allowed at this level - a players stick may be checked if it is below her shoulder. The uniform includes a numbered jersey supplied by the program as part of the registration fee; returning players will use their uniform top from the previous year or can swap out for a larger size. Other uniform pieces (black skort) will be supplied by the player, in addition to a lacrosse stick, goggles and mouthguard.
U11
Marblehead U11 teams of 3rd and 4th graders compete in 8 (4 home, 4 away) Sunday games against area towns in a 7v7 game format. There are 2 practices a week. The 7v7 format on a shorter field encourages player understanding of space and positioning. U11 plays with goalies. Field players get more 'touches' or opportunities to scoop, catch, pass and shoot the ball. Players work on skills and fundamentals with modified rules which serve to provide an age-appropriate transition to the 12v12 game format. The standard field positions include two defense players, two attack players, three midfielders and a goalie. Players observe a midline restraining line. The uniform includes a reversible numbered top supplied by the program as part of the registration fee; returning players will use their uniform top from the previous year or can swap out for a larger size. Other uniform pieces (black skort) must be supplied by the player, in addition to a stick, goggles and mouthguard.
U9
The U9 program is an intramural, developmental one for players in 1st and 2nd grades. Games are played 7v7 on a shortened field. Standard field positions are two defense, two attack, and two midfielders plus one center taking the draw; we do not play with goalies. The emphasis is on learning lacrosse fundamentals, basic game rules and having fun. All U9 teams will have one weekday practice and meet on Sunday mornings for a short practice followed by a game starting in mid/late April. Games are officiated by paid MHS Girls Varsity/JV Lacrosse players. This age group wears t-shirts supplied by the program. Each player must provide her own stick, eye goggles and mouthguard.
U7
A clinic style, developmental program for players in Pre-K and Kindergarten, the U7 program consists of six Sunday morning clinics starting in late April. The focus is on fun while learning basic fundamental lacrosse skills. We have sticks, though players may bring their own; players must supply their own eye protection goggles and mouthguards. This age group wears t-shirts supplied by the program.
Clinics will start in late April and be weather and field-dependent. We need at least 20 registered players and parent volunteers to run the U7 program. More information to follow.
