Our Select Program participates in The Founders Girls Lacrosse League (FGLL).  We have two Select teams, for U13 (Grades 5 & 6) and U15 (Grades 7 & 8).  The goal of our Select teams is to give players with a current higher skill level and commitment the chance to further improve their game. The Select program builds on what the girls learn in town practice, and instruction goes deeper into various areas of the game. Practice attendance, effort, attitude, and leadership factor into decisions about positioning and playing time. After tryouts, we roster the most competitive team we can. Playtime is not equal or guarenteed. 

Teams begin practicing in March.  The game schedule is; 4/1, 8, 15, 29, 5/6, 13, 20, 6/10(playoffs), 16(playoffs), 17(championship).

Selection for the U13 and U15 Select Lax teams are based on: performance at the tryout (40%), town coach evaluation (40%), attendance record at town team practices and games (10%) and overall team ranking (10%).  We consider such factors as attitude, teamwork, effort and sportsmanship in the final team selection process. Tryouts are evaluated by experienced current and past Marblehead Girls Youth Lacrosse coaches. Coaches are not eligible to evaluate his or her own child. Making Select in a previous season is not a guaretee of future selection.

There is a seperate cost to register for a Select Team.

TRYOUTS

All interested players MUST register in advance of tryouts. Walk-ups at tryouts are not allowed. We strongly recommend that you attend both tryout dates.  We are unable to consider a player for a Select team who does not attend at least one tryout.

Select tryouts for the 2021 season will be held in spring, dates and location to be determined.

All 4th and 5th graders registered in the town program are eligible to try out for the Spring U13 lax team.

All 6th and 7th graders registered in the town program are eligible to try out for the Spring U15 lax team

REGISTRATION

Players will be notified by a certain date, and must register by a specific date in order to secure their spot.  Information on notification and registration dates will be annouced in the coming weeks.

If you are offered a spot on the Select team, we ask that you fully understand the time commitment before accepting. To tryout and accept a spot on a Select team, you must play on a town team. Select team players are expected attend ALL Select and Town practices (2 Town practices and 1 Select practice per week), in addition to games for both teams. We understand that players have other commitments, but please strongly consider this offer and understand that it is a privilege to be offered a spot on a Select team.  As it is a Select team and coaches aim to field the most competitive team possible, not all players will get equal playing time.
